See To It!

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world,
and not according to Christ.”
Colossians 2:8

When I read in this verse those first 3 words, “see to it”, I’m reminded of a story of General George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge which occurred during WWII. The Battle of the Bulge (also known as Ardennen Offensive, was a major German offensive launched through the densely forested Ardennes mountain region of Wallonia in Belgium, and France and Luxembourg on the Western Front towards the end of World War II. General Patton was one of the few America military leaders that understood the danger of this enemy offensive and as a result pushed his men hard to recapture land lost to the Germans in this unexpected move. He pushed his men so hard that they extended beyond the other divisions and their own supply and communication lines. General Patton clearly needed new communication lines hung on poles or trees or whatever was available an so he gave the command, See To It!

As he was making his way to the front in his car, he saw a young man up in a tree hanging communication lines while under enemy fire from Stukka dive bombers and Messerschmidt fighters and he would not come down. The General was so moved by the young man’s commitment he stopped his vehicle and asked the young 17 year old boy, “Aren’t you afraid of anything?”.  The young man  answered the General, Yes Sir, I’m afraid of you!”

Paul uses those words, “see to it” with the same amount of command and authority. We need to be sure that we are not taken captive by the philosophy of this world and the empty deceit that is all around us today. So be on guard, stick to the Word of God as your guide and press on with the Lord Jesus Christ as your Commander. He is the only one who can lead you this this crazy world in which we live. He alone has the authority and power to bring you through this battle victorious for His glory.

We know how WWII ended and we also know how the present day battle will one day end, God and Jesus Christ will be victorious. I can only hope you are on the right side of the battle in the end. Won’t you cry out to God today for Him to forgive you of your sins and place your faith and trust in His Son, Jesus Christ? The battle will be over soon, I can only implore you to make sure you are following the right commander in the battle.
