“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am? Simon Peter answered,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16
Today all around the world people are celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Talking about Jesus elicits many responses from people. Some are outraged by Him. Others adore Him as the Son of God and Forgiver of sins. Some think he’s a prophet or humanitarian—a great moral teacher. Others remain disinterested and indifferent. What others think isn’t really important. What’s more important is what do you think? Who do you think Jesus is?
Quite often people choose to not answer this question. But, no answer is an answer. It’s the most serious question in life, and it deserves the most serious consideration. Jesus Himself actually gives us the answer to that most important question.
After all it was Jesus Himself that made the following statements in Holy Scripture…
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known my Father also.
From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.” John 14:6-7
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” John 3:36
As C. S. Lewis wisely observed, if Jesus Christ wasn’t a self-deluded lunatic, and he wasn’t a blatant liar, there’s only one other possible alternative: Jesus Christ was God himself.
Who is Jesus Christ to you—lunatic, liar, or Lord? That is the inescapable question. He alone can redeem you–free you from the power and penalty of your sins. He alone can transform you, restore you to fellowship with God and give your life eternal purpose. Will you turn from your sin and believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Won’t you decide today?
“I don’t try to imagine a God; it suffices to stand in awe of the structure of the world, insofar as it allows our inadequate senses to appreciate it.” -Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955)
