Shelter In The Time Of Storm

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

You might recall the hymn by the same title of this article, A Shelter In The Time Of Storm. This hymn was said to be a favorite song of the fisherman on the north coast of England, and they were often heard singing it as they approached their harbors in the time of storm. It was written by Vernon J. Charlesworth and Ira D. Sankey.

The Lord’s our rock, in Him we hide,
A shelter in the time of storm;”
Secure whatever ill betide,
A shelter in the time of storm.

Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land;
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
A shelter in the time of storm.

A shade by day, defense by night,
A shelter in the time of storm;
No fears alarm, no foes afright,
A shelter in the time of storm.

The raging storms may round us beat,
A shelter in the time of storm
We’ll never leave our safe retreat,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

O rock divine, O refuge dear,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Be Thou our helper ever near,
A Shelter in the time of storm.

One of the more hot-button issues discussed in the church today is the issue of the rapture. If you’re unfamiliar with it, the rapture is an event that will happen when Christ will take all believers to heaven just before a period of severe judgment on the earth. This is an actual event that will happen. It is a glorious truth that Christ will return and save those who know Him from the judgment to come.

This should comfort us who know Christ because of the fact that since we’re in Him, we’ll never face the coming judgment. Our sins are completely washed away. And in His grace, God will save us from the storm to come.

So take comfort. Trust in god’s goodness, take comfort in his forgiveness, and you’ll never endure judgment for sin! The God who saved you and forgave your sins will most assuredly save you from having to endure any judgment for those sins. Trust in God’s grace and goodness, keeping your hope, trust and faith solidly in Him, and you’ll find shelter and safety from the judgment to come!
